I've always been told that I had a Danish heritage- in addition to being French Canadian, Irish, Haudenosaunee Indian (Iroquois, for the pale faces of the world. lol), and who knows what other nationalities. But the other day my grandmother on my father's side sent me detailed information and documentation on my Danish heritage to take with me to Denmark.
My great-great-great grandfather was Lars Bertelsen, born in 1854 in Hostelboro, Denmark. In 1879 he married Christina Masden, also of Hostelboro. But then they moved to New Denmark, New Brunswick, Canada where they settled and had 10 children.
The coolest part of this little package that my grandmother sent me was the original family photos of the Bertelsen family:
I can't wait to get to Denmark and go visit the hometown of my great-great-great grandparents...its going to be so cool!
I just Google Map'd directions from Copenhagen to Hostelboro...could NOT be farther away. lol. It's a four hour trip across three islands. Should be interesting.
